Per Mertesacker serenades Arsenal fans at Christmas with German rendition of Silent Night... and he finds it totally hilarious

Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker spread his own version of Christmas cheer on Friday with a heartfelt, if not the most tuneful, version of the carol Silent Night in its original German.  'We hope you and your family have a great Christmas,' said the 31-year-old before bursting into a rendition of the song which was composed in his mother tongue with the lyrics refashioned for English countries.
Mertesacker managed, with a cheesy grin, to sing three lines - 'Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht (Silent night, holy night), Alles schläft; einsam wacht (All is sleeping, alone watches), Nur das traute hochheiligePaar (Only the close, most holy couple)' - before bursting into laughter
Gunners fans will be hoping their jovial skipper will be more composed when they take on Southampton at St Mary's on Boxing Day. Arsene Wenger's side trained at London Colney on Christmas Day and were in good spirits ahead of their key away fixture.  They can go to the top of the Premier League with a win over Ronald Koeman's men if leaders Leicester falter at Liverpool in the afternoon. Arsenal take form into December 26's 7.45pm kick-off following their impressive 3-1 win over Manchester City last Monday night.
